To get into this ancient city, you can either ride a horse or walk to the main entrance.
It's about a mile downhill walk to the entrance.
An earthquake split the mountain and opened up a pathway to get to city. It's a twisty and narrow road . Petra is known as the rose red city because of its beautiful rock colors.
At the end of the road, this is what you see as you step out.

The Treasury! Does this look familiar to any of you Indiana Jones fans? Nothing in Petra was built, it was all hand carved, including this structure. Amazing, isn't it?
Standing in the Treasury, you can see where the last picture was taken, at the entrance (or exit since there is only one way in and out of Petra). Petra is a huge place and there are lots of things to see and explore. Motch and PA walked up to the High Place where sacrifices were once made. It was over 700 steps up. In this picture, they're making their way back down.
Motch took a zillion pictures here, but I won't bore you with them. There were lots of things to buy, and Motch spotted this item. She placed my picture right where it belonged, dead-center.
What do you think? Am I special or what?
Back at the hotel, a man made sand art, and PA bought one that says "Petra". Unfortunately, it broke on the way home, which made PA sad and made Motch mad because there was very fine red sand everywhere in the suitcase.

And now it's time to focus on the present.

Such beauty. And to know how old it is. That has always amazed me...old things, and REALLY old things are soo fascinating. Since Motch like antiques, we will have to get some more pictures of some things we have.
Muuaah Petra.

Thanks for sharing. It was totally cool. Isn't the Treasury the hiding place of the Holy Grail in Indiana Jones? That's one of our favorite movies :-)

We loved the pictures of the trip. We could look at them every day. We feel that it is fitting that someone carve your likeness into the rocks of Petra.
Go Cubbies. We are wanting them to go all the way. Get out the jersey, pronto.
Petra,
If something happens to the Red Sox we are cheering for the Cubbies (unless what happens to the Red Sox *is* the Cubbies). You look so cute in your jersey. I hope my mom doesn't put that stupid t-shirt on me again, though.
