petra pics

Well, well, well! You'll be happy to know that I've had success. Motch found the pictures I stuck in her bag when she went to work and put them up.She didn't have time to arrange them, they are just taped up for now, but I'm sure they will soon be beautifully displayed. She got the hint and even changed her screensaver, so she sees my lovely face throughout the day. But best of all is this new picture. Take a look:

remembering sadie

On July 30, 2007, just one year ago today, Sadie left my family and went to Rainbow Bridge. I never knew her but from what everyone has said, she was the best of the best. Leah made this video of her, and I'd like to share it with you.

Many of you knew about Sadie through Tad and Fig, and your love expressed in their blogs when she died comforted my family more than you will ever know.
This is Sadie's place, under a tree in our yard. I never go potty here because it is sacred ground! I like to look up at the sky and imagine how happy she is at Rainbow Bridge because now she is able to run and jump and dance around!
I've been told that Sadie will always be remembered for her gentleness. Motch called her Sadie Love because that's what she was, just a big bundle of love. Sometimes she accidently calls me Sadie, and I don't mind but I don't have her disposition! In Sadie's 13 years, she never snapped or growled at anyone. Fig put her to the test when she arrived in our family, because she wanted to be the boss and terrorized Sadie, but Sadie was patient and endured her visits. And eventually, they even became buddies!

Sadie was happiest when she could sit next to you -- touching you --- or rest on your lap. When she grew older and became deaf, she obeyed with hand signals. And whenever she had to go potty, she rang a bell next to the door. I should say that she BANGED it! Loud! She would take her paw and smack it with all of her might and you could hear the bell all over the house. It wasn't especially fun to hear in the middle of the night, so that's one of the reasons why I haven't been trained to ring Sadie's bell when I want to go outside.
Leah was especially close to Sadie, and Sadie taught her many things about life and death. I can see why Sadie loved Leah so much because Leah is just easy to love! If you're listening to me Sadie, I want you to know that I'm taking good care of Leah.
This is Sadie's paw print. It's a constant reminder that Sadie is still with us, close to our hearts. Some day I'll meet her, and the first thing I'll do is run up and give her lots of licks. She'll probably wag her tail and lick me, too, and we'll be best friends. I just know it!

prezzies from pearl

Look! Just look what came in the mail for MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!It was a box with my name on it!
Motch opened the card while I sniffed around the box (top, bottom and sides) and told me it was from Pearl with love, hugs, bellyrubs and smoochies! Woo!
Don't I look beautiful in my new sweater? I also got crunch maro-o snacks, goof ball chicken and rawhide chews, quackers DUCK and run and romp PIG. These things are the BEST! I was so excited, I didn't know what to play with first, but I went for the goof ball.

I ate it with lightning speed!
After awhile, the ball unraveled to a stringy thingy ~~~ yummmmm, strings!

Thank you so much, Pearl, for my birthday prezzie! And my mom said to tell your mom thank you for her candle, too!

busy weekend

Yesterday Motch, Hannah and Leah went to to Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs play. If only I had spent more time practicing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" on the piano, I might have been invited to go along and play at the 7th inning stretch.
AND if I had gone, perhaps they would have won the game. But oh well...
Lucky for me, my dad is a Cardinals fan, and so he didn't go to the the game. Instead, he stayed home with me, and then Fig and Tad came over. Fig always gets me wound up.
Those two always miss Hannah, though, and they eventually found their way to the window to watch for her to come back. And while they were doing that, I got out the camera and took some fabulous pictures of me because I'm taking your advice. I'm getting them developed at Walgreens, slipping them into Motch's bag so that she can have more pictures of ME, Sweet P. She'll be so surprised when she goes to work tomorrow and finds them. Thanks for the suggestion, friends!

unhappiness abounds

Yeah, well, I was feeling just a little irritated today, and I believe you would, too, if you were me.Yes, I was having a down-in-the-dumps, upside-down-smile kind of day so that's why this award from The Puppies meant so much to me.Thanks, guys! I was feeling out of sorts because Motch goes to work each day at a university. That's not problem, that's okay.
This is the building where she works. Every morning I jump on the chair in my bedroom, look out the window and watch her leave; I am such a faithful and loyal pup.
She sits at this desk and helps students with things like making changes to their class schedules. Again, fine with me. It's nice to help students solve their problems.
This is what troubles me. Behind her desk is this group of pictures. Do you notice something missing? Something important? SomeONE important? Someone named Petra Pot Pie who is a Pretty Photogenic Pup? I do believe I see only one picture of me...and how many are there of Fig and Tad? Huh?
I'm just not happy about this.

happiness abounds

This, you see, is my chair and my pillow, the place I go when my family leaves. From this chair, I can look out the window and watch them drive away in their car after they bid me a fond farewell, saying things like "See ya later, Petty Pie! Be a good girl!"
The pillow is soft and cushy and comfy, a perfect place to rest.
So what possessed me to rip it from the chair, throw it around the room and destuff it? That's what Motch wanted to know.
BECAUSE I COULD! That's why!
I had to work hard to stick my head inside of that thing to pull out the fluffy stuffy pieces.
How could anybody NOT smile at a job this well done?

changes

As you know, I've had a birthday, and I've been quietly reflecting on how my life has changed --- and has not changed --- since November 11 when I was adopted. This is something that remains the same: Sunday afternoon naps with my dad. His snoring has a way of lulling me to sleep. It always has and probably always will!

And here is something that has changed. At one time, Tad could jump on the bed to get away from me, and I was too short to follow him.

I'd have to wait until he decided to come down before we could play. But not anymore! Motch had mercy and found a great big step-stool-type-of-thing that helps me get on and off the bed. So in spite of my size, I can keep up with Tad now, and life is so much better!

happy friday!

Finally it's Friday, and that means one thing. It's time to plan my strategy for weekend fun. I've learned that the more often I go potty outside, the more treats I get. The longer I stand by Motch's side when she's fixing food in the kitchen, the more food seems to drop on the floor. The louder and longer I whine, the more attention I get.
I need to give this more thought, and I seem to think best when I'm napping.

Have a happy Friday and great weekend, everyone!

8 months later

July 14 has come and gone and now I can say I'm one! I was 4 months old before I was adopted, though. Looking back on these last 8 months make me misty-eyed at times. Here is a picture of me and my grandma, but can you see what I'm holding? It's Mr. Beetle, one of my first toys, and I loved him tenderly and true.
He was often with me when I napped. Mr. Beetle and I were close. I even had a blue collar to match his blue skin. As time passed, I shared Mr. Beetle with Fig and Tad ~~ we tugged and pulled and pranced and danced with him.
Eight months of loving took its toll on Mr. Beetle, but I still hold the remnant of him close to my heart.
On a lighter note, I'd like to thank Girl Girl Hampster for this award!

I am passing it on to Eduardo, Jack and Patrick,Levi and Cooper, Mack, and Stanislaw. Here are the rules:

cold box tag

My friends Maggie & Mitch tagged me to do the cold box tag!

Here are the rules:

Show us a photo of the front of your cold box. Tell us about one thing on it and one thing you keep inside of it. Tag your friends and remember to stay COOL! And no fair cleaning it up first.
This, everyone, is the front of my cold box. Boring, you say? I do, too. The object at the top left corner is made of coffee bean magnets and sometimes looks happy and sometimes looks sad and usually looks weird.
Of more interest is the side of the cold box on which hangs a calendar and pictures of special places and people and dogs and things. This is the best: the inside! See those cheese swirls? They're my favorite. When the cold box door opens, I sit beside it and wait. Yes, I said "SIT" because I'm learning that if I don't sit, I don't get any cheese. Silly Motch is trying to teach me manners.

Peanut & Flash, I'm tagging you to play this game because Peanut is an expert at opening cold box doors. And I'm tagging Beckett because he might have some wallymelon in his.

Thanks for playing!

July 14 plus 1

Here are more pictures of my birthday, but before I begin, I'd like to help Stanislaw understand my latest post titles. My birthday is July 14 and it's such a special day that I like to write it as often as I can. July 14 minus 1 is really July 13; July 14 plus 1 is really July 15. I like writing July 14. Do you get it?
After we ate our frosty paws (yum, the thought of them sends shivers up my spine),Fig and Tad gave me a package. In it was a felt ball and I love to chew it.
It was hard to focus on anything else, but Hannah helped me unwrap another toy. It was a loofa dog! My very first one!
I took it to my favorite hiding place ~~under the bed ~~ where I could chew to my heart's desire. After awhile, I let Fig play, too. That only lasted for about 20 seconds because everyone was afraid that Fig would tear it up. No doubt, she would have. She has very strong teeth.
Thanks for all of the birthday wishes, friends! It's fun to be one!

July 14

I never thought the day would come, but it did. Today is my first birthday! Tad and Fig came over yesterday, and we started the party then. This was going to be an exciting day!
We went on the deck to eat the frozen frosty paws and they were better than I even dreamed. Some of you wanted the recipe, so here it is:

32 oz. plain yogurt, 1 mashed banana, 2 T p'nut butter, 2 T honey

It’s true dairy products aren’t good for dogs, but yogurt contains much less lactase than regular milk and the live cultures are great for your dog’s digestive system. This dog ice cream recipe is delicious and good for your pet!

Mix all these ingredients in your blender, then dump into ice cube trays, paper cups, or even a kong toy to freeze and serve.
My nose fit right inside the cup, and I licked and licked and licked.
Tad even had one, and he never gets anything but dog food and carrots to eat.
The frosty paws were easier to eat out of the cups, so we dumped them out and moved to the grass to eat them. Fig took a great big bite, and then this happpened.
Tadman stole the frosty paw! And then he got mad when Hannah wouldn't let him eat it. It's a good thing I have self-control, or this might have had an unhappy ending.

Frosty paws are great on hot summer days. If you haven't tried them yet, you should. Ask your moms to make some!

July 14 minus 1

Since the big day is tomorrow, I thought I deserved some special treatment so I talked Motch into painting my nails. Do you like the color? It was actually kind of fun watching my nails turn from white to red. Sort of patriotic, ya know?
With my painted nails, I thought I looked a lot like Motch because her nails are painted, too. She has flowers painted on her big toes but fortunately, I got to skip that part.
Fig came over and decided to join the fun, and she didn't move a muscle till her last nail was painted. We had to sit still while the nails dried and then -- finally -- we were able to run and get some exercise. We found my bed, and started playing tuggie with it. I'm getting better at hanging on while Fig whips it around. When the game was over, it was pretty much the end of my bed, too.
Lucky for me, tomorrow is my birthday and I got an early present! We now have a new rule at our house: the bed goes up on the table when Fig comes over.

3 days and counting...

So my dad came home from work and we played for awhile before I got tired and took a nap.
I was on my back, all stretched out when I was awakened from my slumber by the sound of a blender. Could it be? Was Motch in the kitchen whipping up something good for me to eat?
She was! She was! She was! Guys, look! F R O S T Y P A W S ! ! ! I can't eat them yet because of two reasons. The first reason is because they have to freeze. The second reason is because we are going to eat them on the most important day of the year: MY BIRTHDAY (or barkday as Ruby says) which is on Monday! Yes, our family is having one more birthday, and we saved the best for last!

Fig and Tad came over and we started to celebrate already. Woo!

lightning bugs and leah

May I have your attention, please? I have a very important announcement to make.Today is the birthday of my girl Leah ! She told me all I've been doing is talking about birthdays and not to mention hers, but I am free to do as I please. It's not my fault that everybody has birthdays at the same time in our family. So happy birthday, Leah!
She is so special that even bugs are celebrating! Do you see them? They are flitting here and there, lighting the sky with happy thoughts of Leah.

I'm going to catch one for her! There is a lot of protein in these little things.
Leah prefers caffeine over protein, though, so I'll eat the bugs and let her drink the latte and not beg for too many ice cubes ~~~ but let me tell you, that will be hard.

Love ya, birthday girl!
